As your voice at FIU, we are always looking for faculty who are motivated to get involved to help improve the working conditions of their colleagues. There are different types of leaders in UFF-FIU:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Elected Leaders (President, Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary, UFF Senators, FEA Delegates)<\/li>\n<li>Appointed Leaders (Committee Chairs, Retired\/At-large Chapter Council Members)<\/li>\n<li>Committee Members &amp; Volunteers<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>There can be overlap, such as an elected UFF Senator who also leads a committee. The important thing is that there is a role for everyone, no matter how much time you have to give!<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"fl-col-group fl-node-58e4273fb73f1\" data-node=\"58e4273fb73f1\">\n<div class=\"fl-col fl-node-58e4273fb78a0\" data-node=\"58e4273fb78a0\">\n<div class=\"fl-col-content fl-node-content\">\n<div class=\"fl-module fl-module-callout fl-node-58e4273fb6fd1\" data-node=\"58e4273fb6fd1\">\n<div class=\"fl-module-content fl-node-content\">\n<div class=\"fl-callout fl-callout-left fl-callout-has-photo fl-callout-photo-below-title\">\n<div class=\"fl-callout-content\">\n<h3 class=\"fl-callout-title\">Executive Committee<\/h3>\n<div class=\"fl-callout-text-wrap\">\n<div class=\"fl-callout-text\">\n<p>The Executive Committee of UFF-FIU is made up of the elected officers (President, Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary), appointed Committee Chairs, and the immediate past Chapter President. The EC makes the day-to-day union decisions, oversees the Chapter budget, and meets with University officials. Serving on the EC is one of the best ways to make a direct impact on the union and develop the experience to be an effective leader for your colleagues.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"fl-module fl-module-callout fl-node-58e427d0e00d3\" data-node=\"58e427d0e00d3\">\n<div class=\"fl-module-content fl-node-content\">\n<div class=\"fl-callout fl-callout-left fl-callout-has-photo fl-callout-photo-below-title\">\n<div class=\"fl-callout-content\">\n<h3 class=\"fl-callout-title\">Senators &amp; Delegates<\/h3>\n<div class=\"fl-callout-text-wrap\">\n<div class=\"fl-callout-text\">\n<p>UFF Senators and FEA Delegates are elected to serve as representatives to the UFF and FEA legislative bodies, respectively. Their decisions help guide our statewide unions and their priorities. The UFF Senate meets twice a year (usually in September and February) and the FEA Delegates Assembly meets once a year (typically in the fall). Both are usually held in either Tampa or Orlando; travel and hotel rooms are paid for by UFF. Becoming a Senator or Delegate is a great way to get your first leadership experience as a member of UFF-FIU, meet fellow\u00a0 union advocates from institutions across the state, and make your voice heard for a bigger cause!<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"fl-callout-title\">Chapter Council<\/h3>\n<p>The UFF-FIU Council is composed of the EC members, plus all elected Senators and up to 3 at-large or retired members of the FIU faculty appointed by the Chapter President. The purpose of the the Chapter Council is to provide consent to the appointments made by the President and consult the EC on the broader issues facing the union. The Chapter Council is directed to meet as a full body at least once per semester, but members also typically serve on committees as described below.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"fl-col-group fl-node-58e4271d1bf14\" data-node=\"58e4271d1bf14\">\n<div class=\"fl-col fl-node-58e4271d1c34d\" data-node=\"58e4271d1c34d\">\n<div class=\"fl-col-content fl-node-content\">\n<div class=\"fl-module fl-module-callout fl-node-58e4271d1bc1a\" data-node=\"58e4271d1bc1a\">\n<div class=\"fl-module-content fl-node-content\">\n<div class=\"fl-callout fl-callout-left fl-callout-has-photo fl-callout-photo-below-title\">\n<div class=\"fl-callout-content\">\n<h3 class=\"fl-callout-title\">Committees<\/h3>\n<div class=\"fl-callout-text-wrap\">\n<div class=\"fl-callout-text\">\n<p>UFF-FIU has several standing committee tasked with carrying out our key objectives as a union. Serving on a committee is a low-pressure way to learn how the union works, and a great way to prepare for a leadership position in the future. The specific responsibilities and time commitments will vary based on the committee and their goals for the semester\/year. Members interested in any of these topics are encouraged to reach out to the Chair to get more information on getting involved. Our current committees include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Bargaining<\/strong> for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uff-fiu.net\/wordpress\/bargaining\/\">Contract Negotiation<\/a>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"mailto:bargaining\"><span id=\"uff-fiu-bargaining\"><\/span><\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Grievance<\/strong> for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uff-fiu.net\/wordpress\/grievance\/\">Contract Enforcement<\/a>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"mailto:grievance\"><span id=\"uff-fiu-grievance\"><\/span><\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Membership<\/strong> for organizing membership drives and recruitment activities\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"mailto:membership\"><span id=\"uff-fiu-membership\"><\/span><\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Good &amp; Welfare<\/strong> for organizing social activities\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"mailto:good&amp;welfare\"><span id=\"uff-fiu-welfare\"><\/span><\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Legislative Affairs<\/strong> for political action at the local, state, and national levels\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"mailto:legaffairs\"><span id=\"uff-fiu-legislative\"><\/span><\/a>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"fl-col-group fl-node-58e426e671fc9\" data-node=\"58e426e671fc9\">\n<div class=\"fl-col fl-node-58e426e6723fe\" data-node=\"58e426e6723fe\">\n<div class=\"fl-col-content fl-node-content\">\n<div class=\"fl-module fl-module-callout fl-node-58e426e671cfc\" data-node=\"58e426e671cfc\">\n<div class=\"fl-module-content fl-node-content\">\n<div class=\"fl-callout fl-callout-left fl-callout-has-photo fl-callout-photo-below-title\">\n<div class=\"fl-callout-content\">\n<div class=\"fl-callout-text-wrap\">\n<h3 class=\"fl-callout-title\">Volunteers &amp; Advocates<\/h3>\n<p>While much of the day-to-day work is carried out by our elected and appointed leaders, union work doesn&#8217;t stop there! We are always in need of volunteers to become more active in UFF-FIU. The more voices we have, the better advocates we can be for our colleagues across the FIU campus.<\/p>\n<p>Depending on your interests and time commitments, that may be volunteering on a committee. For others, you may want to start as a <strong>department\u00a0<\/strong><b>liaison<\/b>.
