    On June 2nd, 2025, from 8 to 10 AM, FIU faculty, students, alumni, and other community members will gather outside the FIU's Board of Trustees meeting (GC lawns across from GC Ballrooms where BOT meeting will take place) to say NO to FIU - ICE 287 (g) agreement" which "delegate to state and local law enforcement officers the authority to perform specified immigration officer functions under the agency's direction and oversight.""

  • Urge FIU Officials to Reject 287g Contract

    Community leaders warn that deputizing local police to carry out federal immigration duties under 287(g) agreements imposes a significant financial burden on taxpayers, increases exposure to legal liability, and undermines the public trust essential to building community safety. Florida International University does not operate a county detention facility and is therefore not legally required to participate in the program.
