Keep Calm and Unite: A Message from UFF-FIU’s President
UFF-FIU acknowledges the real impact that recent executive orders have on academic freedom, public health, ongoing grant reviews, and the safety of our international faculty and students. Our transgender and nonbinary colleagues in particular have been subjected to unprecedented disrespectful attacks.
Let’s remember that UFF was founded in the 1960’s to protect faculty advocating for racial integration at Florida’s colleges and universities.
Union workers include a diverse range of ethnic, racial, social and LGBTQ+ identities. Each and every FIU faculty is unique and valuable. Our diversity makes us great, but also means we will continue to be subjected to attacks from those who find it threatening.
Today, once again, UFF-FIU stands together to honor and protect diverse colleagues.
Together, we will continue to stand and work towards a better university for all.
In solidarity,
Tania Cepero Lopez,
Acting President of UFF-FIU
