Dear Colleagues,
This is an important bargaining update. Please read carefully.
On July 29th, according to the deadline laid out in the CBA, the administration notified UFF-FIU that it did not receive sufficient appropriations from the state legislature and would need to invoke the sufficient funds clause of the Salary Article (Art. 11.I.F) to reopen discussions on salary increases.
The administration shared the following message yesterday, Monday, August 11:
Dear UFF-FIU Leadership,
As indicated on July 29th, following the recent review of our budgetary projections and available funding, we have determined that we must reopen the Salary Article of our collective bargaining agreement for further discussion. We remain committed to transparency and collaboration and believe that reopening this article is the most responsible and constructive path forward.
We have scheduled our first bargaining session for this Wednesday, August 13, 2025, to begin this conversation and explore potential solutions together.
Thank you for your understanding and continued partnership.
While we are disappointed in this outcome, we remain committed to working with the administration to secure faculty the compensation that reflects their hard work building FIU into a top university.
As noted, we begin bargaining on the salary article TODAY, Wednesday, August 13, from 3:00-5:00PM.
Faculty are encouraged to attend bargaining sessions as silent observers and use their UFF-FIU Zoom background.
